Why the Big Real Estate Firms Are Becoming Obsolete—and How We’re Leading a New Era of Personalized Service.

Simply put – Technology. The big guys got big through purchasing ad space in bulk. In their time that was paper (News papers and magazines.)

Welcome to Best of Miami Beach, where real estate isn’t just a transaction—it’s an important part of your life experience. In an industry dominated by cookie-cutter approaches, we stand out by putting your interests first.

As seasoned professionals with decades of experience, we understand the critical importance of making a memorable impression within the first 18 seconds of contact. But we also know that the real work happens over time—through trust, commitment, and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs.

After 32 years navigating the high-stakes world of real estate in New York City, our business was hit hard by the pandemic. With restrictions forcing us to close our doors and many longtime clients relocating out of Manhattan, our ability to adapt in such a large market became a challenge.

As I approached retirement, I realized that rebuilding in NYC no longer made sense. As a native of Bay Harbor Islands and a seasonal resident since 2005, the answer became clear: my team and I would relocate to Miami Beach, where we could return to our roots and create something more meaningful.

With a combined 75 years of experience in real estate—much of it spent at some of the largest agencies in the industry—we are now proud to operate independently, just seven blocks from where it all started for us in 1957. Our focus isn’t on growth for the sake of growth, but on providing exceptional, personalized service to our clients—something that’s increasingly rare in today’s real estate landscape.

Why We Don’t Work at Big Agencies

A common question we receive is why we chose not to work at one of the large, national real estate agencies. The answer is twofold:

1. Big Agencies Prioritize Growth Over Service: Many of the largest firms are more focused on expanding their market share than on maintaining the personalized, client-centered service that people truly need. The bigger they get, the harder it becomes to offer the individualized attention each client deserves.

2. The Transactional Mindset: At large firms, clients often feel like just another deal in the pipeline—a number, not a person. We believe in a different approach: one that prioritizes relationships over sales quotas. At Best of Miami Beach, we view each client as a partner, and our job is to understand not just their immediate goals, but their long-term vision in order to act appropriately.

We reject the notion of viewing a home simply as an investment or a commodity. A home is more than just a place to live—it’s where memories are made. The moments that define our lives take place within those walls. This is why we take a holistic approach to your real estate needs, considering not just the price and location, but the unique needs, hopes, and dreams of the people who will call it home.

When you work with us, you’re not just buying or selling a property; you’re engaging in a process that’s tailored to your lifestyle. We’ve seen firsthand that it’s often at the *end* of the process—when issues arise and complications emerge—that true experience matters most. That’s when having a seasoned professional by your side makes all the difference. So choose us, a family owned and run brokerage that chooses to live and work in the same neighborhood as yourself.

Why the Traditional Real Estate Model Is No Longer Effective

To understand why large real estate firms are becoming less relevant, we need to look at the evolution of the industry.

– 1900s: Real estate was simple. A yard sign and a small ad in the local paper were the primary ways to market a property. Information was slow and costly to disseminate.

– 1950s: Real estate offices evolved with brokers calling each other to share listings. Information still moved slowly, and paperwork was cumbersome. Large ads in newspapers became the norm, with brokers vying for attention through print media.

– 1990s: The internet revolutionized the industry. Suddenly, real estate listings were available online, and information could move at the speed of light. Brokers no longer had to rely on expensive print ads to reach buyers—they could instantly upload listings to websites.

– 2000s and beyond: Print publications like glossy real estate magazines, once a mainstay of marketing, have become largely irrelevant. By the time the magazine arrives in your mailbox, the property may already be sold. Today, these glossy publications are reserved for listings that are expected to be on the market for a while.

In an era where information is instant and technology makes it possible to provide nearly every service offered by the large firms, the need for oversized corporate agencies is diminishing. What top agents are realizing is that they can go independent and still offer all the same, if not better, services—including tech such as virtual staging, drone aerial photography, and global exposure through a large number of platforms like Zillow, Redfin, Trulia, and Realtor.com.

Large firms offer agents a sense of security, but in the end, they’re more interested in growth than in providing customer driven service. They’ve turned real estate into a numbers game, treating clients as “deals in the pipeline” rather than valued partners.

Our Commitment to Doing Real Estate Better, Not Bigger

At Best of Miami Beach, our goal isn’t to sell more properties—it’s to sell ‘better’. We differentiate ourselves by focusing on the quality of service, not the quantity of transactions. In a crowded and noisy marketplace, we stand out by offering an authentic, local approach. We didn’t use generic stock photos of glass-and-marble buildings or couples sipping coffee while gazing out at the view. Instead, we show the real Miami Beach—sand, sun, and surf. These are the things that truly capture the essence of living on the beach.

When you choose to work with us, you’re not just getting a realtor—you’re gaining a partner in your interests who truly understands the unique opportunities and challenges of the market. With decades of experience and a passion for what we do, we are committed to delivering results that exceed expectations. Your home is more than just dollars in a pipeline; it’s a reflection of who you are—and we’re here to help you make the most of it with alacrity.
